Kissama National Park, also known as Quiçama National Park, is Angola’s most accessible and well-known wildlife reserve, located approximately 70 kilometres south of Luanda along the Atlantic coast. Covering more than 9,000 square kilometres, the park protects a diverse landscape of savannah, forests, wetlands, and river systems along the lower Kwanza River.
Home to elephants, giraffes, antelope, buffalo, and a wide variety of birdlife, Kissama has become a symbol of Angola’s wildlife conservation success. Following years of decline during the civil war, the park was revitalized through major conservation initiatives, including the famous “Operation Noah’s Ark,” which reintroduced several large mammal species from neighbouring countries.
Visitors can enjoy guided game drives, birdwatching, river excursions, and spectacular natural scenery while exploring one of Angola’s most important protected areas. Its proximity to Luanda makes Kissama National Park a popular destination for both local and international travellers seeking an authentic African wildlife experience.
